We have had so many incredible weddings this year, and this wedding is no exception. Katherine and Jackson planned one of the classiest weddings I’ve ever attended. The venues were stunning, the details were to die for, and their whole approach was relaxed and simply a celebration of love. I can’t tell you how many times I teared up during their speeches (not just from the pregnancy hormones!), both tears of laughter and of admiration for the family and friends these two have standing behind them. Truly an honor to witness and be a part of.
Their wedding took place at the gorgeous Knox United Church in downtown Calgary. Such a beautiful backdrop, with an amazing officiant (Erin Klassen) who was so down to earth and a joy to work with. With the rain hovering in the clouds above, Matt and I had to make some alternative photo location choices downtown, but found these amazing archways right square in between the ceremony and reception venues. Gotta love when that happens. The reception was held in Teatro, a stunning restaurant downtown that had the perfect atmosphere and food that you could die for...seriously. SO GOOD. Speaking of the venues, the decor and flowers were just gorgeous. This was our second time working with the wedding decorator, Valarie Vassie, and she outdid herself again!
Quick side bar: This is a strange thing for me to comment on in a wedding blog, but I cannot speak more highly of Katherine & Jackson’s Chauffer, Gerrard, that day. Not only was his vintage car something out of a movie (her name was Dorothy, and she’s a 1952 Bentley MKVI), Gerrard was like having a personal assistant to the Bride all day...taking her flowers, holding umbrellas, helping to dress the Father of the Bride (He’s Scottish, so he knew exactly how to fashion the kilt and accessories-how perfect is that?!). Anyways-if you’re looking for a car rental in Calgary (and beyond), check out Highland VIP. If their other employees are anything like Gerrard you won’t regret it! (They’re not paying me to say this-I just want to give credit where credit is due!)
Receptions have always been my favourite portion of a wedding day. A time where I can station myself where I can see everyone's faces and just take in all the emotions that go along with speeches. Its the time of the day when I get to hear all the awesome stories about our amazing clients and really get to experience their family/friends dynamic. It's the time where people let loose the big laughs, hold back the tears (both happy and sad), and really allow their emotions to lead the way. Katherine and Jackson's family/friends were no exception. Some of the biggest and best laughs of my career.
Katherine & Jackson, thanks so much for allowing us to have a part in your Big Day! We had an amazing time with you two, (and your friends and family!) and are so excited for what the future holds for you guys.
